As part of an initiative to improve working conditions, exoskeletons have been deployed in the packaging area to reduce musculoskeletal disorders, particularly lower back pain. This initiative is part of a transitional phase pending the medium-term implementation of the Factory of the Future, which will eliminate the manual carrying of loads.

A practical and flexible solution

A comparative study was carried out to identify the most suitable device from among the various options analysed (jib cranes, lifting tables and exoskeletons). Exoskeletons were chosen for their flexibility, small footprint and low investment cost.

Two Japet W+ models have been acquired and are currently being gradually adopted. After initial training, the exoskeletons were put into service at the beginning of March, with gradual support to enable a smooth adaptation to the workstations concerned.

Monitoring and evaluation

Monitoring points were carried out after 2, 10 and 20 days of use. Analysis of the feedback shows tangible benefits:

  • An estimated 50% reduction in lumbar fatigue.
  • And up to 40% decompression of intervertebral discs.

Operators also highlight the ease of use of the equipment, which weighs just 2 kg and is quick to put on. Overall, the feedback has been very positive, both in terms of comfort and integration into the daily work routine.

This initiative, which is backed up by an annual maintenance contract, is part of an active policy to continuously improve working conditions and reduce occupational risks. It anticipates future structural changes and marks a step towards a more ergonomic and sustainable industry.
