The ATEX (EXplosive ATmosphere) zone is an area that is defined as an explosion risk area in which the mixture of flammable substances (gases, vapours, mists or dusts) with air can lead to full combustion of such mixtures after ignition under atmospheric conditions. The ATEX zone requires the installation of adequate electrical and non-electrical equipment to prevent any equipment from being a potential source of ignition.
